Everything in the boxes is clearly arranged and is quickly found if anything happens when you are travelling or at home. For example, if you cut yourself in the kitchen. A plentiful supply of adhesive tapes and wound dressings in various sizes, together with scissors, enable these injuries to be tended quickly. As far as the scissors are concerned, the Austrian Standard specifies that scissors contained in First Aid boxes according to ÖNORM must be of good quality so that even car safety belts can be cut in a case of emergency.

One characteristic of the First Aid box according to ÖNORM – in contrast to other conventional First Aid boxes available on the market – is that an Austrian Standards Committee was specially set up (composed of members of the Austrian Standards Institute, the Austrian Samaritans Association and industry representatives) to discuss in great detail, precisely which items and quality of items (materials, sizes, etc.) are most appropriate to provide First Aid.
The Committee specified the form in which aid is given to consumers to enable First Aid to be given properly at the crucial moment. They took into account that a sufficient number of selected items should be provided so that, if necessary, several people could be cared for at the same time.
